Tomas Andersson
A resident of Stockholm, Sweden, a town he moved to when he was supposed to go to university to study Law. He never finished those studies but you could say he got a PhD in Nightlife instead. He soon discovered the thrills of making music and promoting parties. This was at a time when guys like Andrew Weatherall started making dance remixes for indie bands, and people started importing American techno records to Europe.
His first releases came in 2001 under the moniker Sven Andersson (on UK record company Longhaul and on his part-owned label Average) and caused some stir which led to his first gigs outside of Sweden, most notably at Fabric in London and OstGut in Berlin.
Tomas got in touch with BpitchControl label boss Ellen Allien in 2003, and quickly started releasing a string of 12” EPs for them, the first one being the “Rock Acid” EP, which led to him doing some remixing , for instance on the DJ Hell track “Keep On Waiting” on Gigolo. To date it’s been nine releases for BPC, of which the “Washing Up” EP in 2005 may be most well-known, complete with a very successful remix by Tiga, which was played and charted by djs from all over and ended up on numerous compilations and also on the soundtrack for the racing game “Need For Speed”. Most recently Fat Boy Slim even did an official mash-up of “Washing Up” with vocals by rock icon Iggy Pop.
If 2008 was a bit silent with only a couple of remixes, 2009 has been way louder. Tomas second album “Stiff Disco” in November was preceded by the singles “Put Yo Ass To Work” and “Asthma” including remixes from Terence Fixmer and Magas (all these on Funk Noir Records). Most recently he released “Din Mamma” EP on Eternithouse, including a remix by ascii.disko which has been charted by guys like Dave Clarke and Tiga. He’s also done a few remixes, for Funk Noir label boss Jacques C, Jinder (Trouble & Bass), Arno Gonzalez and Jonas (Aenaria)
Tomas is also part of the trash techno / anything-goes duo Vaerelsen which has to date released one single “Gor Dansen” and an album “Varannan Damernas”.
