Madsen
Paul Madsen was born in the seventies in a small town in the county of Norfolk, England. He studied to be a teacher at a university in London and then ended up back in his home town. Madsen has been writing music since the age of eleven when he recieved his first keyboard for Christmas, a Casio MT65. Since then music has been a huge part of his life. From his first experiences with synthersizers and MIDI sequencing with a Commodore Amiga, to writing and producing his curent album 'The Silence' using the benefits of a PC and soft synths.
Madsen grew up on a diet of music from the 60's to the modern day but it was when he first listened to Jean-Michel Jarre's classic album 'Oxygene' that his mind was opened to the possibilities of electronic music. Favourite bands through the years have included The Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Daft Punk, The Prodigy and Underworld. However, he finds the current music scene a bit dull and boring and now looks to talented internet based musicians for his inspiration.
Madsen is also into film making, he is part of a team currently working on a silent movie comedy. Madsen helps in the writing, filming and editing of the film work and is solely responsible for the soundtrack.
As for writing music, Madsen is a firm believer in originality and producing the music he enjoys; if he enjoys it then hopefully so will others! He never samples others' work for his original tracks and draws inspiration from any style or genre of music. He always tries to start the writing process with a tune or riff and then takes it from there. Madsen is convinced that the technology no longer matters, anyone can pick up free soft synths and sequencers, 'its all down to your own imagination and skill'.
He has written many albums but has never let them loose on the public or sent them off to a label and so when the internet took off he knew this would be the future of music publishing. He feels the net allows the listener greater choice and with the rise of internet based labels such as Fluid Groove Records filtering the good from the bad, it is becoming easier to find exactly what you want to listen to.
As for the future; well he likes the quiet life but wants his music to inspire future musicians and would wants to write and produce for other artists and be the guy that others sample. Oh, and selling a few of his own would be nice.
