601 have been creating and releasing music together
since 1994, in a variety of styles, from ambient techno to experimental
drum and bass. Following a long break from producing, they reformed in
2005, when chance found them both moving back to their hometown at the
same time.A renewed passion for creating music, combined with the stellar leaps in music technology has allowed them to hit the ground running, creating a buzz throughout the breaks community in a relative short space of time. Although they have not always concentrated on the breaks genre, their music has always been influenced by breakbeat culture, from old school hip hop through big beat to nu school breaks and beyond.
Sketchy is the driving force behind the duo, with links to the breaks scene stretching back to 1997, when he formed the collective Nu Step Kru, along with future Deep Impact Producers Mark East and Sy Dyson. This led them to DJing at various UK snowboarding events, Culminating
Nat had been a friend of Sketchy's since primary school. Always the audio boffin, one of Sketchy's earliest memories of meeting Nat was him showing off a sampler program on a ZX Spectrum he had typed in out of a magazine!
Since hooking up together again, they have a solid agenda and gameplan, writing big breaks with funk heavy basslines.
In 2006 601 have been more productive than ever, gaining support all over the world, producing remixes for some of the top breaks artists and labels, including Hidden Forces (Epidemic Recordings, CA), Majool (Menu, UK), Rico Tubbs (Menu, UK) and Bristol jump up legend Mulder.
The boys have also signed one of their original productions to canadian breaks monsters Influenza's label Epidemic Recordings for their track Five-O, gaining heavyweight support from such breaks luminaries as Aquasky, Jay Cunning, Myagi, Dopamine & Timmy Schumacher.
