Miss Jarea
MISS JAREA: SCANDINAVIAS NR 1 FEMALE DJ BY VOTE 2003Born in Warsaw, Poland on August 2 in 1977, Magdalena Katarzyna Lipska and her family moved to Norway, shortly after her 7th birthday. Ever since she was born, she felt an urge to be the center of attention.Fond of singing from the day she opened her mouth, she would keep her parents awake at night, singing songs like Boney M's 'It's a Holiday'. Music and curiosity has always taken a prominent role in her daily routine. Attending all singing contests she could find and holding playback concerts, singing Madonna and Samantha Fox to the other kids in the neighbourhood didn't really give the satisfaction she was looking for, so at the age of 15, she decided to study to be an Aerobics instructor. Jumping around on a good beat while being the centre of attention is what appealed to her most about it. At the age of 16 she was to be confronted with electronic music for the first time, becoming a huge fan of Prodigy and Westbam. Her first step to harder music was a Josh Wink performance at BCM on Mallorca. Shortly after, she was old enough to go out clubbing in the city. The big change in her life came when she attended her first rave: XS To The Rave Zone. Being a bit sceptical at first, she ended up dancing with her eyes closed, lost in the hypnotic sounds of music that would change her life forever. In 1997 Magdalena met the reknowned DJ Goldfinger, at that time Norway's most successful Drum 'n Bass jock. For the first time she became interested in actually spinning herself. It wasn't really the technique, or working with records that fascinated her, but the fact that one could entertain a crowd with something that comes directly from the heart, giving people the time of their lives while totally dominating them at the same time. Two years later a local artist manager involved her in a project with DJ Eskimo, as a dancer during his live performances. Her experience as an Aerobics instructor, along with her breakdancing skills, made Magdalena rock the crowd. The undiscribable feeling of the cheering audience got her hooked on performing, and soon she became the project's vocalist. After attending numerous parties all across Norway, she figured out that dancing didn't give her enough saisfaction and so she decided to spin proffessionally. While working on her DJ skills, she invested in a set of Technics SL1210's and run off to London for some serious shopping. She returned to Norway with a big TidyTrax labelled Bag filled with the hottest Hardstyle and NuNrg records, most of them not even out yet. All she needed now was a name. Jarea, pronounced Jah-re-a, is a character from a role-playing game that Magdalena used to play. Jarea is in a way a fantasy mirror image of Magdalena: She's reflecting her devotion to doing what she believes in, despite obstacles and disappointments, and she would never give up on her goals. Not long after that, Miss Jarea got her first gig. Late July 2000, Club ID's resident DJ Puregroove invited her to spin. Although being a little bit nervous, the gig went down nicely. After a couple of records, the nerves wore off and she was jumping behind the decks. Her performance moved the crowed and she was demanded back to spin again. Her style was much harder than anything played there at that time, so she was mostly invited for the late hours. Also Wonderland, mid-Norway's best Dance oriented afterparties started to invite her over and shortly after, Miss Jarea found herself playing on Norway's finest gigs, such as Sundance, Milk Club, Trance Nation's Le Club, Resurrection and even Hyperstate, now called Biblos. With weekly broadcastings on reknowned web radio's such as PureDJ.com, international gigs and releases, Miss Jarea is Norways leading HardStyle DJ. She has also been voted for Scandinavias Nr.1 DJ 2003 on Megamind.dk. Playing UK Hard Style, known as a cocktail of UK Hard Trance, Hard House and Nu-NRG, topping it with a collection of dutch and german Trance/HardTrance and Techno played out of passion, Jarea has many faces. She lives for the music: "no bigger thrill than adrenaline raging through my veins from making people go frenzy-mental on the dance floor and screaming for more. Music is like chaos in order, and chaos is what makes me wild". On the production side, Magdalena has proven to be able to put her thoughts to recording. In 2001 she released the project Call Me Poison, together with DJ Eskimo, through CNR/Indisc. Also her remix of Tell Me did really well. Recent co-productions with RBA/Carnal producer Dan Brinslee resulted in the Soul Commander EP, played on BBC Radio 1 (UK) by Judge Jules and released on UK label Shock, a solo EP consisting of the works Next Time and Dont Disturb, a dark Techno-Trance anthem called No Control and the upcoming release named Its Getting Closer. Learning her way around the studio, Magdalena is bound to improve her skills and present many smashing releases to come. In addition, her latest productions include the use of her own voice. Already, big international labels such as Nukleuz and Tidy have shown interest in her work. Recently Miss Jarea has launched her own label Grimlock Recordings and with it a brand new techy track 'Missing You' Under pressure of the increasing international demand for her performance, Magdalena has recently moved to Amsterdam, from where she hooked up with a.o. Dutch Hardtrance and Hard Dance promoter Q-Dance, arranged a brand new residency in Los Angeles and various other bookings in Scandinavia, Holland, Germany, Luxembourg, USA, Egypt, Poland and the UK. Dressed up in cyber outfits, its the funky way she moves and the banging tunes she plays that make her move any crowd presented to her. So be on the lookout for this funky cyberwarrior, as she is bound to conquer the world. For bookings and more info, please see www.miss-jarea.com |
