Tastemakers
Based in Guildford, UK, Tastemakers are one of the hottest upcoming dance production/DJ outfits. Formed of two hugely talented producers/musicians/DJ's; Ben Preston (21) and Nathan C (22). The pair met at University in early 2006 out of a shared passion for House music and are on the sharp uprise with their work gathering support from many of the worlds leading DJs.
Their debut release, Definition, was originally discovered by Fergie on his BBC Radio 1 show in August 2006 when it was featured as his unsigned track of the week. The pair consequently received numerous offers before it was snapped up by Born to Dance Records in Brighton. The track received the remix treatment from Noir and plenty of support from many leading DJs including: Bodyrox, Stondebridge, Chris Lake, Micky Slim, Martijn Ten Velden, Noir, Funkagenda, Paul Emmanuel and Kid Massive.
The boys then went on to remix for the UKs biggest dance label; Ministry of Sounds Data Records imprint. Their dubby remix of Masons Exceeder became a popular fixture in many DJs CD wallets and the track hit the official UK singles chart at number 3.
More recently, Tastemakers have signed two tracks to Gusto Recordings one of the UKs leading dance labels. The tracks in question are Dont Want Her (which includes a Bart B More Remix) and Dream Of (including mixes by The Young Punx and Payami). These two tracks will be coming out during 2008 with Dont Want Her scheduled to drop around early April time.
Since graduating from University in August 2007 the pair have been working on a debut album project, collaborating with writers and singers such as Laura Vane (The Streets), Therese (Stonebridge), Shelly Poole (Alishas Attic), Alexander Perls (Paul van Dyk) and Joe Killington (My My My Armand Van Helden). Once finished, the aim is to take the album on the road and develop into a live act, in a similar vein to Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada and Faithless.
Their recent bootleg Just Make Love has received big support on Radio 1 with airplay on Pete Tongs Essential Selection. Supporters on this track already include Judge Jules, Wez Clarke (Hed Kandi), Steven Quarre (Hed Kandi), Brandon Block, The BeaThiefs, Mike Manzella (Miss Moneypennies) and Patrick Hagenaar (Housexy).
What the industry says about our music.....
"Still at uni, they should have more important things to do than make big, whoomping electro tracks. You know, like drink cheap lager and watch way too much telly. Instead, they've done 'Definition', which sounds like a soon-to-be-successful, commercial electro house record." One Week to Live
