Collins & Behnam
The hungarian duo Collins & Behnam are relatively new names on the palette of the international dance music. Henry Collins (real name Gabor Nemethy) was born in Budapest on the 17th of March 1975. He started his DJ career around 1993 influenced by the shaping hungarian techno/house scene, and since 1996 making own productions as well. Lotfi Behnam hails from Teheran (Iran) in 1982, but after his birth the family moved to Hungary, and grew up there as well. Behnams first contact with the turntables was at the age of 16, and soon got chances at local clubs, then (in 2000) launched an own radio show called Pulzar. It was an important milestone in the history of hungarian electronic-music scene, because it was the first radio show which has covered all the electronic genres. In 2002, he speared a job at one of the biggest mid/east european booking agency Titan International, and still works there as a booker, organizer, and certainly as DJ.
They first meeting was just a coincidence in 2003 at Behnams radio show but the guys immediately found the common musical ground. Soon they started to make tracks together under Groovejacks moniker, and it fared really well. Then the guys decided to use their own names and the Collins & Behnam project was born. Around 2004 spring they sent demotapes for several european labels, and got good feedbacks from everywhere, but the fastest was Felipe, the header of the well-known technolabels Titanium Records and Supreme Entertainment, who immediately offered a contract for the guys. Then in December Dave Angel also heard his new demotracks and the reaction was the same as in case of Felipe: contract from his legendary Rotation imprint. In the beginning of 2005 with Felipes effective intervention they got chance from the belgian distributor N.E.W.S. to launch a label (called Solid Beatz) for their own materials. The duos sound is a perfect fusion between the groovy techno and house, and all of this with the characteristic C&B flavour what is just hot and funky.
