Track Information: Static Plastic, the debut album that marks the beginning of Static Plastic the label and also introduces our brand of music destined for world wide exposure. Static Plastic features collaborations by Dave Togher, Daddy, Qhaks and Paul T (lead singer of Acoustic Kitchen). Dave Togher (Murmur and Meanwhile Sounds) is synonymous with Deep House in South Africa and has played at renowned clubs like 4th World and Sublime and has made him well loved amongst the Joburg's underground peeps. "Polyrezonclick" and "Space Walk" is his first attempt at producing and with the help of Static Plastic these tracks are pure Togher Deep Styling. Paul T, lead vocalist of Acoustic Kitchen lends his Grungesque vocal to "Light Night" and "Love Spin". "Light Night" is deep melancholy song about the days spent in your favorite Night Club with your friends doing those things you shouldn't and reminiscing about the times you had. On the other hand "Love Spin" is just that, a spin on love and problems perceived. Rhamatome "Daddy" Thomas Molete and Qualane Jacob "Qhaks" Mofokengs collaboration on "You Got Me (Forever)", "All You Need" and "Song Of Praise" is truly inspirational. With Daddy on vocals and Quaks on keyboards "You Got Me (Forever)" is a love song of note, as is "All You Need" in that old school Disco House vibe. Both deep and sexy but can still cook the floor. "We Come Together" on the other hand is a Gospel-Blues track in true spiritual fashion with a bit of Trip Hop and Tech mixed in for good measure. Static Plastic produced, mixed and arranged all the tracks and his own tracks include "Release Yourself" and "The Journey (20 000 Leagues Under The Sea)". Release yourself is a Deep Funky track with frying bassline and melodies, nice to groove to. "The Journey" is Trip Hop track with Reggae feel and takes you on a trip 20 000 leagues under the sea. The Citizen 17/08/1999***** STATIC PLASTIC, aka Petro Stathoussis has been around for a good many years, pioneering the SA dance scene from the time of clubs like Idols, 4th World and the Thunderdome. Static Plastic is 13 tracks of bliss, including collaborations with DJ Dave Togher and Paul Thackwray from Acoustic Kitchen. This superb album is also available on vinyl. ELLE magazine 01/10/1999 |
