Upcoming Dance Star Dies Suddenly - RIP Barry Connell - Skrufff.com

Reported by Tristan Ingram on May 7, 2008

Hotly tipped tech-trance DJ Barry Connell has died after contracting a rare strain of acute meningitis, just days after Judge Jules showcased one of his sets on his Radio One show as one of Britain’s outstanding new talents.
The 28 year old resident DJ of Glasgow Club Inside Out and England’s Good Greef played with Jules at Inside Out on April 12 and 12 days later died in his sleep after becoming suddenly ill.
Speaking about the tragedy on his online blog, Jules described Barry as ‘a young resident DJ of huge potential’, whose talent had long ‘stood out a mile from the crowd’.
“Everyone who knows him is in shock. It’s not yet clear what the cause was, but for someone to be taken so young, just as they’re on the verge of breaking through to the big time, is just so unfair,” said Jules (writing a day after learning of Barry’s death).
“Barry’s ‘BBC Introducing’ Essential mix (his first BBC broadcast) had gone out only 5 days earlier. My deepest sympathies go out to his family and fiancée,” he added.
CNN’s medical portal said meningitis’ initial symptoms are often similar to flu, adding ‘acute bacterial meningitis usually occurs when bacteria enter the bloodstream and migrate to the brain and spinal cord’.
“Meningitis typically results from contagious infections,” CNN add, “Common bacteria or viruses that can cause meningitis can spread through coughing, sneezing, kissing or sharing eating utensils, a toothbrush or a cigarette.”
