Warming up for the Saturday night highlight of the biggest Bank Holiday of the summer, we grab headliners and house music legends Hoxton Whores to hear what treats they have in store for our hard working dancefloor!
Currently smashing Ibiza with their new Whorehouse residency and the download charts with a non stop slew of pumping anthems they took time out to tell us why they are looking forward to All Night at Mass in Brixton on the 29th August – party on!
2009 seems to be working out to be a vintage year for you guys – Ibiza residencies and number one smash remixes and productions – what’s your secret?
Yeah 2009 has been a great year for us with plenty happening in and out the studio....Launching Whorehouse at Eden in Ibiza was a big plus, always an ambition of ours to start our own night and to take the Whorehouse tours all over the world means another box ticked!!! Great success on the Devil Toy track (download chart No.1's), now signed to the Toolroom camp awaiting a large vocal, will hopefully be a winner for the charts later in the year! And finally it seems we've cracked our name stateside with new remixes and releases on the *69 label. Not sure about a secret. I think it just comes down to numerous years of hard work and gradually getting yourself out there - wish we did know a secret and we could have done this years ago with a lot less grey hairs!!!
Hoxton Whores have been around making music and performing for a long time now – what’s been your career highs over this period?
Yeah we seem to have been around for a long time now about 8 years as the dastardly duo, with plenty of highs and lows happening through the years!! DJing at festivals to 15,000 people or so has definitely got to be a high for me, the likes of H2O festival in South Africa, Colors in Helsinki, MTV Dance Slovakia, and playing Good Vibrations after party in Aus. DJ tours have also been superb, getting to see the worlds major cities from a full on party angle, with tours around Australia, China, America, Asia, Russia, and Europe etc etc. Especially when your playing to 2000 people on a roof terrace in the centre of Sydney at Sounds On Sunday...CRAZY!! Can't wait for the forthcoming tours of Australia, South America, Canada and America planned for later in the year so we can do it all again!
Musically having a download number one (Devil Toy).. AMAZING! working with Cream (Eric Clapton) for a major release in the charts.. ENORMOUS! producing remixes for the likes of Faithless, David Morales, Leftfield & Deep Dish....FAT, and just generally hearing your tracks going off in a club or on the radio....IMMENSE!!
It’s party rocking pumping house music all the way – how are you going to inject the energy into a crowd already warmed up by SW4 Festival?
I know challenge or what!? but we're up for it with a few tricks up our sleeve!! In fact I'm sure it won't be that difficult as I'm certain the crowd will already be so up there that all we'll have to do is to carry on the vibe from such a great festival. In fact I reckon it'll be one of our easier and most enjoyable gigs!!!
Your remix of Needin U on CR2 is THE anthem of the summer – what secret weapons might we hear on the 29th August to top it?
Yeah we've had a real positive reaction from the "Needin U" mix and it's always a winner on the dancefloor, but I'm sure we've a few more special nuggets hanging around in our bag fresh from the studio and waiting to explode! Especially a brand new remix we've just finished of Ruff Driverz presents Arrola "Dreaming" an awesome summer track revamped and ready to fire! Plus we've got our latest projects "Vicious Fever" & "Staunch" to let loose alongside the new mixes of "Sunrise" & "Le Voie Le Soleil", so reckon we'll be OK!
Taking classic anthems everyone knows and bringing them screaming up to date is you modus operandi – how do you choose which forgotten gem needs that special HW treatment?
Being vintage clubbers it's easy, just pick on the ones that kept us on the dance floor over the last 20 years...and boy did we dance! There's still plenty more out there that we busted our moves to awaiting the HW treatment so we're got going anywhere yet, but the hard part is delivering them in a style so as not to do an injustice!
Are you looking forward to coming south of the river for this bank holiday special – any tips for fellow Hoxtonites tempted to travel to a converted church in SW6 to see you play?
We both already live south so no difficulty there - it's our studios that are based in Hoxton...but for all those Hoxton Heads thinking about coming, don't hesitate as it's an awesome day out and the venue we're at properly goes off and has got to be up there with the best in London! In fact i'd recommend doing the whole day and seeing how long you can last – there’s no work Monday to worry about!
See ya there big love
