LABEL INTRODUCTION / HISTORY

 

 

 

Matrix Music is a record label fully dedicated to a wide spectre of electronic music. It was started in 1994 as the first techno label in the (former) Eastern Bloc, always supporting fresh local and international talent. The label developed from the first electronic music radio show in Slovenia which has been aired on Radio Student (the only »alternative« radio station in what was then Yugoslavia) since the late 80s. It spurred a small but vibrant »scene« of DJs and producers including Random Logic, Clox, Moob and Coptic Rain who have paved the path for Slovenian techno »stars« of today - Umek and Valentino Kanzyani. Irregular club nights were held in various Slovenian clubs while Matrix Music acts also toured in the neighbouring countries. Although low-key, its releases charted regularly on respected DJ's charts and got favourable reviews in international dance press. Today the label also releases DJ-mixed compilations by artists of worldwide renown such as Slam, Christian Smith, DJ Rush, Marco Bailey, Cristian Varela…etc. while at the same time supporting new talent.
