Track Information: Aqua & Arctic are one of this year's big discoveries on Echelon. The duo comes from Russia and define their style mostly as progressive house and trance with tech influence. Their debut on the label is a rock-solid EP Purple Decline / Last Hope. Purple Decline begins with an irresistibly catchy bass groove accentuated with plucks and reverberating lead stabs. The breakdown brings a short upbeat bridge sequence between the driven main parts with some harmonic modulation and theme development, after which the track returns to the delicious ride of the beginning. The En-Core remix builds on a progressive trance basis with a broken bass gallop and long-line melodic development spiced with tech twist. The other original track in this release, Last Hope, has a naughty bass line with some capricious harmonic shifts. In the background, a bright pluck plays a grim theme, accompanied with savvy background effects. The diverse multi-level theme development is what makes Russian avantgarde so creative and interesting these days, and raises prospects of Aqua & Arctic among the future composer talents from Russia.
