Track Information:
Olly Perris is one member of Trackitdown's Content Management team, whose job it is to ensure that Trackitdown is kept up to date with all of the latest & greatest releases, DJ charts and new record labels. When he's not sat in his corner of the office listening to R&B (as he has a strange tendency to do), Olly does have a habit of unearthing a few hidden gems within our catalogue and coming across some of the best dance music on planet Earth.
Here, Olly selects 10 of the biggest within the TID catalogue this month and has provided a short description of each below:
1. Alavi - 'Smells Like Rerox' (roXour) - "Nirvana are my alltime favourite band and 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' is pretty much my raison d'etre, so when I heard that it had been given an electro makeover naturally I shuddered with absolute dread. Luckily, this rocks hard. Yes, it's sacrilege and yes it does rip apart one of the greatest anthems of all time but it actually does something clever and unique with it, which sticks it miles ahead of all of the other bullshit reworks that you see floating around."
2. Aqua Bassino - 'Rue De Paris' (F Comms) - "One of the great things about Laurent Garnier's F Comms label is their ability to switch up between cool, groove-laden house music and superb downtempo. This track from Aqua Bassino falls into the latter and is one of my favourite chill records of the moment. As taken from the superb 2007 edition of the Megasoft series, F Comm's long-running downtempo compilation series."
3. The Pigeon Detectives - 'Take Her Back' (Dance To The Radio) - "OK, so it's not strictly dance music and you probably can't get away with playing this at some of the cooler nights around but if you're after purely energetic music, UK indie outfit The Pigeon Detectives are here to provide. Inspired by the electro-infused sounds of The Klaxons merged with the energy of The Arctic Monkeys, 'Take Her Back' is a full-on aural assault with one of the catchiest hooks of 2007."
4. Adam K & Soha - 'Twilight' (Rebirth Italy) - "The office fell silent when this got played for the first time and rightly so, as it's surely a classic in the making. Taking inspiration from the melodic house sounds of the likes of Deadmau5 and Alex Kid, 'Twilight' is a delightful house record with huge appeal to both the house and trance scenes. An absolute must-have."
5. T2 ft. Jodie Aysha - 'Heartbroken (Wideboys London Mix)' (AATW) - "You can't escape this record anywhere in the UK at the moment and rightly so, as it has absolutely rejuvenated the UK bassline scene and is drawing more and more people to what is a superb genre. I've picked out the Wideboys London mix here though as it takes me right back to the glory days of 2 Step. A deserved classic in the making."
6. Myers Briggs - 'Forever' (Sentient Sound) - "Just simply an awesome, jaw-dropping piece of electronic music from Myers Briggs. This has absolutely everything - emotion, energy, power, presence, character and quality. Give this a listen in its 9 minute entirety - if you're not moved by the end of it, check yourself to make sure you're not made of stone! The electronic equivalent of a classical symphony."
7. The Junkies - 'Konijnte (Mason & The Maker Remix)' (Magnetron Music) - "Sounding not dissimilar to Inner City's old skool anthem 'Good Life', AKA The Junkies deliver a sassy electro number with 'Konijnte'. If you're into the sounds of Peaches, The Crookers or Robyn, this is one to check! Mason & The Maker serve up a stunning remix to boot here, adding a healthy dose of dirt to proceedings."
8. Silje Nes - 'Bright Night Morning' (FatCat) - "Let's face it, the words 'Norwegian' and 'good music' rarely appear in the same sentence but here we can make an exception. Silje Nes issues her debut album containing some silky folk music, absolutely perfect to play whilst keeping warm by the fire this winter. Another beautiful mellow record."
9. UNKLE - 'Hold My Hand (DubFire Remix)' (Surrender All) - "Ali DubFire gets to grips with James Lavelle's latest masterpiece and turns in a remix of cinematic proportions. As you'd expect this is high quality electronic music filled with inherent emotion, power and passion. Absolutely essential!"
10. Robyn S - 'Show Me Love (StoneBridge Remix)' (Champion) - "I couldn't finish this round-up without including at least one classic, and here is one for this month. The current interest in Bassline house has seen the old skool organ sound come into fashion and if there's one record that defines that sound, this is it. A true house masterpiece and still hasn't aged even after 11 years."
