Cari Lekebusch’s Kung Fu Fighting ::

Reported by Trackitdown TID on October 31, 2005

Swedish techno star Cari Lekebusch chatted to Skrufff this week about living and DJing in Stockholm and revealed that the Swedish capital is so violent he sometimes has to defend himself with Kung Fu.

“There are always bar fights because people get stupidly drunk here and puke all over the streets,” said Cari, “Though I know places in the UK where it’s the same, I guess it’s a Scandinavian and British thing; to drink a lot of alcohol and get messy.”

Cari’s most recent brush with trouble came as he took a beer from the cooler set aside for DJs as he was about to spin in a club in Stockholm, to the displeasure of a local ‘steroid dude’, he said.

“I was just about to play and was going through my records in my case when this guy came up to me and said ‘put the beer back, you can’t just steal the DJ’s beer’. I said ‘I’m one of the DJs, I’m just about to start but there was something wrong with him, he was really aggressive and he tried to punch me.

“I was quick enough to duck and avoid being hammered. I don’t know if I can thank my kung fu skills for that but they certainly helped.  He threw a punch at me and it’s no problem to avoid one punch so I did that, then he stopped because he realised that I really was a DJ,” he chuckled. “That was in Stockholm. A typical Stockholm thing.”

Fellow Swedish producer John Dahlack, who’s just 20, told Skrufff he sees it quite differently, however, declaring, “I think Stockholm is a really calm city.”

“I’m not a big drinker but I have a lot of friends who are and when I go out I see a lot of heavily drunk people but I don’t see it as a big problem, it’s the same in every big city.

“I have never experienced fighting either in clubs or outside on the streets either,” he added.
