Ibiza police shut San Antonios Bar M this week just hours before The Streets star Mike Skinner was due to play a DJ set at Manumissions Ibiza Rocks party, in the latest police crackdown on nightlife on the island.
Writing on his Myspace page, The British pop star said he was absolutely gutted about missing his show and spent the rest of the night hanging round nearby Bar Mambo listening to Roger Sanchez.
Went to sound check, everything sounded good, ate some Nandos, went back for a shower and then heard that the police had shut down the stage! They put tape around the whole thing and said if anyone goes on they get arrested, he said.
Ibiza has been well f**ked up this year. Manumission at Amnesia, crap weather, Bora Bora closed, DC10 closed, he continued, We also nearly got thrown out of our villa as well this morning coz (because) the cleaner came in and noticed that there are 25 people living in it and we're only supposed to have 12. Honestly this island with its rules and regulations, he complained.
Manumission chief Andy MacKay was stoical about the closure, and promised local web site Ibiza-voice the rest of the seasons Ibiza Rocks events will be happening as planned, though the site reacted angrily, heavily criticising the latest police action.
Just as positive stories about sophisticated clubbing experiences, luxury lifestyles and celeb visits are burnishing Ibiza's reputation the good is being undone by a stream of arbitrary attacks on clubs, restaurants, bars and now Ibiza Rocks, they stormed, This closure highlights the danger of over-zealous policing which runs contrary to the greater good of the island.
