Lisa Lashes Hails Hell’s Angels ::

Reported by Olly @ Trackitdown on August 24, 2007

Hard house diva Lisa Lashes defended Britain’s Hell Angels this week and said her regular gigs at the Angel’s Bulldog’s bashes are some of the favourite parties she plays at.

“I really enjoy playing for the bikers because my sister is part of one of the Hells Angels’ groups so I usually go to the parties with her and meet up with a few old faces,” she told Skrufff.

“They love a good party and that’s why they put these events on, as you can’t really imagine a load of them rocking up to the likes of Godskitchen and being let in so they have to put their own shows on,” she pointed out.

Lisa was speaking days after 35 year old Hells Angel Gerry Tobin was shot in the back of the head as he rode home from the latest Bulldog Bash, in Warwickshire, prompting a rash of media articles focusing on the reputed criminality of the gang, Lisa, however, was unimpressed, hailing the ‘family’ type structure she’s witnessed first hand.

“The press always go to town on them, a lot of time making up malicious rumours as they don’t know an awful lot about them because the bikers very much keep themselves to themselves,” said Lisa.

“Though they obviously look at little frightening with the leathers, the "deathhead" symbols, tattoos and fierce loud Harleys if you have never met them before,” she conceded.

“I basically grew up one street away from the Hells Angels club house so have known what they do and the kind of people they are for years,” she added, “They couldn’t have been nicer whenever I’ve played at their parties as they are genuinely cool people that look after each other like a special family. I can honestly say, I’ve never seen or heard of any trouble at any of their parties,” she said.

The Independent newspaper, meanwhile, followed up the shooting by publishing a section from Tony Thompson’s acclaimed book on UK criminal organizations ‘Gangs: A Journey into the Heart of the British Underworld’ in which the writer branded the Angels major drug distributors. However, he also conceded that police have often failed to secure convictions including one senior member who was stopped with a bag containing nine kilos of high-quality cannabis in his car.

"What a coincidence," the biker reputedly told them. "I was just on my way to the police station to hand this in. I found it at the rally. I think it might be drugs."

“Fingerprints were found on the outside of the bag, but not on the packets of drugs inside,” Tony Thompson added, “It was impossible to disprove his story – no matter how unlikely – and charges were dropped.”

Lisa Lashes’ new album Can’t Sleep is out shortly. (‘When in possession of marijuana, be polite to police officers. They consider attitude to be very important, and that would be no time to make a bad impression.. .’)
