Electroclash Pioneer Plots New New York Invasion ::

Reported by Trackitdown TID on September 17, 2007

Larry Tee chatted to Skrufff this week about his upcoming new music festival ‘Dance Music Invasion’ and confirmed that Ferry Corsten, Loco Dice, Eric Morillo and Lil Louis Vega will be appearing at the inaugural Manhattan event.

Parties will be happening in clubs across the City from Tuesday October 2nd to Sunday 7th, with Larry and Princess Superstar headlining Pacha on the Saturday night (with Erick Morillo). Larry said the new event will be ‘more in line with the Amsterdam Dance Event or the Winter Music Conference, and will be ‘a swift departure from the tightly curated hipster line-ups’ of his earlier events Electroclash and the Outsider Festival.

“Invasion came out of the frustration that the US hasn’t embraced a lot of the exciting new electronic music formats such as minimal, the dubsided sounds, the new emotional techno or the pop crossover hipster hits,” Larry explained, “It’s intended to be a showcase where all types of electronic and dance music has a chance to be exposed and the producers and artists can get together yearly and have a good time and hear the latest music.”

The renowned trendspotter defended the festival’s mainstream line-up (‘we feel that variety will enhance New York's status as the spiritual home of dance music instead of trying to redefine hipster culture’) and added he’s optimistic that the much-maligned underground club scene can still be revitalised.

“The most exciting new trend in dance music in New York City is the trend to dance in Brooklyn where all the cool young kids live instead of trying to compete with the Wall Street bottle club service of expensive Manhattan where everyone looks like strippers or bouncers,” said Larry.

“My latest venture, the Happy Birthday Club, is NOT sitting next to million dollar condos that don’t want loud, drunken nightclubbers on their steps. And out in Brooklyn, people are free to play music that isn’t all house or pop or well-known hits. The underground lives in Brooklyn,” he said.
