We were inundated with entries for our Ant Brooks Talent Search competition and what impressed us most was the seriously high standard of nearly every submission proving that there are some incredibly good undiscovered producers out there.
It was extremely hard for Ant to pick a winner but ultimately there could be only one!
With great pleasure we announce the winner is Tim Perry of Oxford with his submission Timmy Perry - Ha!
Congratulations Tim. You win a day in the studio with Ant Brooks and £100 worth of sample packs. We look forward to hearing the results!
Coming a close second was David Richards of Milton Ernest with his submission Uncle B - Puddle Foot. David wins £50 worth of sample packs.
Ant Brooks is a hugely in demand remixer and DJ so we would personally like to thank him for taking time out of his hectic schedule to work on this project with us proving that both Trackitdown and Ant Brooks are committed to supporting and unearthing hot new production talent.
Here is what Ant Brooks had to say on the competition and what he's got lined up over the coming months.
Can you tell us about your overall thoughts about the quality of entries received please?
I was really overwhelmed about the amount of entries received and it was really encouraging to hear there are that many young producers out there producing this style of music. Was hard to condense them all down to a shortlist but I finally got there!
What caught your ear when you heard Timmy P ‘Ha’? What made it stand out to you when listening in the studio – anything he did that you’d recommend other producers do? Ie mixdown quality etc that made it sound more polished on your monitors... Or was it just a wicked hook that lept out?
The general groove and style of the track is exactly what I like to hear in a track so straight away it stood out from the pack!
You have also commended Uncle B, what advise would you give him to help reach a polished final standard that major house labels would like to hear?
Uncle B's track was a close 2nd! Again great groove and really nice production. I'd say consistency is key here. Keep his originality and quality in the music and eventually labels will take notice.
What is ant brooks up to right now? What releases are coming? Tour dates of interest?
I'm currently really busy in the studio with originals, re edits and remixes. In the next couple of months I have lots of music forthcoming on Toolroom Records and Strictly Rhythm. You can catch me DJing in London at The Lightbox on May 27th and at The Honeyclub in Brighton on June 4th.
What’s your basic studio set up? Any favourite or essential pieces of kit you’d recommend to other producers please?
I am running an Apple Mac based system with Logic 9. On 99% of my projects there will be Logic's ES1 and Sylenth synths. Plus the CamelPhat and Sonalksis filters. I also use the T-Racks 3 for my mastering. I highly recommend these.
Once finished you will be the first to hear a clip of the results which will be posted on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
Trackitdown would like to thank the hundreds of entrants who submitted tracks. Keep an eye out for further exciting remix competitions and talents searches coming soon.
