Plus supporting the likes of Tiesto and Swedish House Mafia and performing at Creamfields, Global Gathering, Tomorrowland and Pacha. He truly has earn't his place amongst the heavyweights of the electro house scene.
TID caught up with him ahead of his gig at Pacha in London with the Nightowl crew...
Thanks very much for taking time out to speak to us! Can you tell the readers where you are in the world today and what you’ve been up to over the last 7 days?
Today i'm sitting in my home studio working on a new track. I had last weekend off so i've been spending some time catching up with my family, which has been fun.
We’re very excited about your set at Pacha in London for Nightowl. What have you got in store for us?
I've been working flat out in the studio this year, so there are lots of new tracks i've made ready to drop. Plus i'm always making re-edits of other tracks so expect a few surprises!
You’ve played all over the world, how do the clubs and the clubbers in London compare to those around the rest of the world?
I love playing in London. It's one of my favourite cities in the world. The clubs and the people are amazing. Always a great atmosphere wherever it is.
You’ve done remixes for a host of artists including Chase & Status, The Prodigy, Lady Gaga, LMFAO, Snoop Dogg, Madonna and many more. Who’s at the top of your wish list to remix?
I'd love to remix Paul Weller or another Mod type band. Something a bit different i think.
You’ve played several back-to-back gigs with AN21 and Max Vangeli. Do you have any projects in the pipeline with these guys?
We actually did a track for their forthcoming album called 'Story' which will be released in September I believe. I've been playing it for over a year now and it doesn't seem to age.
Your tracks are full on energy and are always very cutting edge. Where do you take your inspiration from and do you listen to much music outside of the electronic dance scene?
Thank you! I take inspiration from all sorts of things really. How my mood is at that time, I might hear a small clip of a track in an advert or something that sparks off an idea. Music wise i've found myself listening to Classic FM a lot on the way home from gigs lately. My ears need a break from electronic music every now and then.
Since becoming a heavyweight in the world of electronic dance music how has your lifestyle changed?
It's changed in fact that I get to travel around more doing shows and meet some great people. Although you don't really get time to see much of the places you play. Mainly the airport, the hotel and the club, but I love every minute of it. I put more pressure on myself musical because you need to have a strong output of music in this day and age. Apart from that i'm still the same old me really!
Who’s hot in your headphones at the moment then, anyone we should be listening out for?
Dyro and Nathan C are the first 2 that spring to mind. Both are making really strong tracks at the moment.
The festival season and Ibiza is upon us. I imagine you’ll be all over the world this summer, what are the 3 essential items you take with you on your travels?
I've just bought a PS Vita for on my travels to kill a few hours at the airport. But the main 3 are Bank Card, Laptop + Headphones and USB's.
You’ve had a load of releases this year already. Are there any Kim Fai projects that we should keep an eye out for in 2012?
I've just released my new Single 'In The Night" on Toolroom Records with vocals from a great guy called Paul Aiden. We've done another track together which will be out soon and also there are 3 or 4 other tracks to look out for later in the year from me too.
Sadly that is all we have time for, a big thank you to Kim Fai for taking the time out to speak with us. You can catch Kim Fai in London this Saturday, the 21st July at Pacha with Nightowl.
