5 Minutes With Anja Schneider!

Reported by Sam TID on November 30, 2012

Anja Schneider is one of the Co-founders of the chic Mobilee Records. Anja has travelled the world with her extremely charming personality as an internationally renowed DJ and producer.

On December 8th Anja Schneider and the Mobilee familly hit London for Mobilee Sessions, so with thought we'd have a little chat ahead of the event to find out more about this unique individual.

Thanks very much for taking time out to speak to us! Can you tell the readers where you are in the world today and what you’ve been up to over the last 7 days?

Hello and thanks for having me!This last week I’ve been to Bucharest and Hamburg where we had two Mobilee Session nights. We have quite a few going on the next months including Paris, Turin, London, Miami and Mexico. I was also pre-recording my radio show ‘Dance Under The Blue Moon’ (as I can’t always be there in person) which goes out on Radio Fritz on Saturday nights at 22:00.  And then of course normal day-to-day business, visiting the Mobilee office for meetings and taking care of my son.

So you are one of the co-founders of the stylistic Mobilee Record label, could you tell us a little bit about the record label and what sound it represents?

Yes I started it seven years ago with Ralf Kollman beginning with the idea to release music from new, fresh and young artists and of course, fundamentally make music you can dance to.

How did this your relationship with Ralf Kollmn come about?

When I had the first offer from Word and Sound to set up a label, Ralf was my boyfriend and a really good manager, so it was a simple and easy decision to start the business with him.  We are now just partners in the label but remain the best of friends.

What was your vision when you launched the label back in 2005 and how has it changed over the years?

Ha ha, of course we started with this "minimal hype " but as time has passed we have developed our sound and our output as any forward thinking labels should. If you are not open to doing new things or developing new sounds then it becomes boring, not just for us at the label but our artists and supporters. We are very happy with what we have achieved at Mobilee and that we can still do what we love. We are blessed to work with such talented and nice people. Having great artists makes our work so much easier.

Anja you’ve had a whelm on release on Mobilee and other labels, I’m sure all the producers out there are dying to know what your studio looks like, can you tell us a little bit about it and what’s you favourite piece of equipment?

My studio is next to the office in Mitte, which is on the east side of Berlin. My favourite piece of equipment – my head – I couldn’t do very much without it!

You’re bringing Mobilee Sessions to London on December 8th with London Warehouse Events. Can you tell those of us who’ve never experienced a Mobilee event what we should expect?

First thing to expect is hopefully a surprise and then of course, lots of nice like minded people plus not-stop dancing all night long

The Berlin music scene is famous for throwing some epic parties, how do they differ to the parties in the UK?

Berlin is a law unto itself and not replicated anywhere in the world but maybe London thinks the same way about itself, as do all the big cities. We certainly don’t drink so much I know that.  One is not better than the other, just different. Parties as you know are what you make them – anytime anywhere, if the ingredients are there, it’s the best.

The Berlin scene is also famous for producing some very talented artists, is there anyone coming through the ranks that we should be watching out for?

Selfishly I would like to say Ray Okpara. He’s our most recent signing to the label and we’ve just released his artist album ‘Good Times’. I really love him and it!  It’s new and fresh and of course something you want to dance to. Everything that comes from Mobilee has to have the dancing seal of approval.

The music industry is a tough business. Is there anything you know now that you wish you’d known when you first started out?

I think keep your friends close, be yourself and don’t believe the hype.

Finally NYE is fast approaching, how and where will you be seeing out 2012?

We will be en family and I will play at the Coco Maya, Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Big thanks to Anja Schneider for taking the time out to speak with us. You can can catch Anja and the rest of the Mobilee crew performing at The Sidings on December 8th with London Warehouse Events, for more information click here!
