US rave star Joel Zimmerman (aka Deadmau5) has insisted he ‘don’t care’ about the relentless stream of Twitter criticism he attracts from the likes of DJ Sneak, branding the Twitter loving anti-EDM zealot a Luddite.
“With DJ Sneak we’re talking about this guy who comes in today, 20 years later, and says, fuck all this shit, it isn’t real house music! Yes, we know, it was a 909 and an old sample, great, ” he told Billboard’s editorial director Bill Werde during an interview at the FutureSound conference
“Do you go down the river to beat your clothes on a rock and hate on me for using a washing machine,” he scoffed. (Inthemix; http://bit.ly/11r0Ia7 )
Sneak, meanwhile, turned his attention towards Resident Advisor’s Top 100 DJ poll, dismissing it as a ‘hype chart more than a buzz chart’, despite appearing at 83 in the influential tech-house poll. (http://bit.ly/SuB27M )
Singled out by RA for ‘getting into in a lot of beef—literally and figuratively’ in 2012 as well as ‘more importantly. . . keeping up the thumping house style that made him famous’, Sneak nevertheless appeared angry at his placing, dismissing props from fellow veteran Derrick May.
He also retweeted Waifs and Strays’ positive endorsement of the poll (‘quite stunned about people moaning on @residentadvisor poll. It's a vote. People vote, the most popular win. End of surely’) before answering in typically blunt fashion.
“2WaifsandStrays who is moaning? i'm stating the obvious,” he declared, “Today is popularity over Talent.” (https://twitter.com/DJ_Sneak )
