Dutch superstar DJ Ferry Corsten unveiled details of his new double mix CD
Infinite Euphoria this week, which includes his usual trance style selection plus a scattering of markedly different tracks.
The biggest surprise is his inclusion of The Prodigys Smack My Bitch Up which he mixes straight out of William Orbits electronic ambient take of Barbers Adagio For Springs reflecting the variety hes increasingly introducing into his sets.
What Im doing right now is finding a balance between the raw, dirty sound of electro and incorporating it into trance, Corsten told Skrufff in June. I try to mix the two styles in such a way that trance fans will understand it and enjoy it.
The CD is otherwise heavily trance based (including stacks of his own productions plus tracls from Armin Van Buuren and Matt Darey, reflecting his own slightly ambiguous attitude towards the genre that made him.
When trance started it was fresh and had a lot to offer, then it went away and came back again with more ideas. Now were facing the same problem again, because nothing new has come along musically; it has the same structure, its not innovative and it lacks spontaneity, he said.
Of course, I still love trance and so do many fans around the world, but I feel the music needs a fresh injection of new ideas.
Infinite Euphoria is out in September.
