What can we say about London’s only free breakbeat monthly? The night continues to go from strength to strength, with hoards of queues around the block, a cracking line up, and a thriving breakbeat community. August’s Hum saw the amazing J.D.S rip it up and tear the roof off, whilst resident host Rennie Pilgrem and featured guest MC, Chickaboo rocked the crowd with their perfect combination of raw MCing and Rennie’s twisted breakbeat style. Will Saul and Future Funk Squad also went down a storm with ‘Hummers’ rocking til 6 in the morning.

This month Rennie Pilgrem will be celebrating the launch of his eagerly awaited new album Pilgremage alongside the fabulous MC Chickaboo, in what promises to be the breakbeat party of the year!  With loads of new albums to give away to the HUM database on the night we strongly recommend everyone to get their names on the guest list early!

The Pilgremage experience delivers live instrumentation with horns, guitar, drums and Rennie on bass. There's the spoken word of the talented MC Chickaboo on ‘Celeb’; the angelic vocals of Sara Whittaker-Gilbey on ‘Coming Up For Air’ (the second single release from the album) and an overall diversity that straddles all genres, from electro and rock to funk and punk.

Resident and co-founder of HUM Mark Pember a.k.a Meat Katie will once again be spinning his eclectic mix of tribal and tech breaks alongside Hum’s new regular Will Saul, one of the scenes shining talents and owner of Simple Recordings.

Guest DJ’s on the night are Atomic Hooligan, who are Matt Welch and Terry Ryan. Expect to hear a different style of breakbeat, as the boys refuse to follow the path already trodden. In addition to Atomic Hooligan, Hum are proud to present one of Canada’s most respected breaks spinners, Spence, AKA DJ Slim, resident of TwentyHz at The Lotus Sound Lounge.  Spence – famous for his saxophone performance and scratching during his DJ sets Spence will whip the crowd into frenzy with his totally unique musical style. Last but not least, Room 2 is hosted by Sheffield’s Urban Gorilla, who is fonder Maley, accompanied by Dean Muhsin, and Geoff Ticehurst.

Pilgremage is out on TCR on 13th September – Cat no RENNCD012
